Vintage light fixtures

I have 2 of these light fixtures in our bedroom. They're interesting but need updating. Any ideas? And, yes, our walls and ceilings are knotty pine that I'm trying to live with. The floors are hardwood.

Amy, spray the brass parts with a bronze paint. Instant update!

HI -- Maybe spray paint the whole thing white , that would look nice . And if it doesn't work with what they are made of , then nothing lost , at least you tried . Then that tells you it's time for new ones , right ?
