I'm on the fence. New kitchen is just days away from being finished and can't decide on the counters.

I'm in the same situation, love the look of marble but have been told its super high maintenance by everyone including the countertop guy and a friend who has it in her kitchen! Probably gonna end up with granite since its so durable.

I heard there is now a granite that looks just like marble - very thick and durable. I'm going to check it out because I love the look of traditional marble as well but I love red wine!

I am days away from making my decision on counters and I think I am going with Super White which is a quartzite (???). Found that out on Houzz. After looking it up on Houzz it seems to be the closest look to Marble in a real stone. Now to pick out the slab!!

My decorator had me Just look at 4 slabs of Super White granite ( not quartz) and it is beautiful! Looks just like Carrera. I put those slabs on hold. I think you should see if your granite supplier can show you slabs ( small square samples don't show the beauty).

Agree with above author ( EOM). As I said in another post. My daughter put Super White in her new house 4 years ago . She has 2 active girls and they entertain often with a huge center island / table used by all and no problems to date. They love it! Their carrera in the baths has held up great too. I am a few months away from my gutted kitchen being done and my super white being installed! I'm sooooo excited!

Would love to know what all you fence sitters decided and if you are happy with your choices. I, too, was lured by the marble siren song but have yet to have it installed as we are down to bare walls.

@bbnoehr - I went with a gorgeous Giallo Rio exotic granite in my kitchen and so glad I did! I put a Calcutta Marble counter in the bathroom which looks amazing but does show stains even after setting a glass of water on it! Don't even want to think about what it would look like in the kitchen!

There are different densities of marble and a good slab supplier can lead you in the direction of a marble that is more suitable for a kitchen. Also, choosing a marble with a satin finish or honed is less likely to show watermarks and etching. Sealing the stone with a good sealer like 411 is critical and then re sealing it often (which is actually quite easy) is a must in the kitchen for any light colored stone but especially marble. The more you clean your countertops the more often you should seal them. I would keep a bottle under the sink and do it in high use areas as a routine. I just finished installing mountain white marble for a client and we intend to put a piece of glass on top of the island which is the likely place they will be opening bottles of red wine!

Please explain how counter double thickness yet the veining matched up? Looking at sink, obviously double laminated ... Curious if photo touched up?
