Panels.

Love the fabric. I have similar situation. I used a HunterDouglas Roman Shade in a fabric that matches the woodwork on each window with panels at the ends. I felt panels in between would be overkill. I had box pleat valances made for the windows on the sides of the fireplace. I have loved them for 4 years now.

Hi NJMomma :) I would do panels on the ends with a pretty decorative rod - for the shades, you need to think about whether or not you want to see your landscape because when they're down, the view is blocked and the room is darker ALTHOUGH I've done 'sheer' shades that are really pretty instead of fabric. For the windows at the fireplace, you can add the decorative rod and have one panel on the outer edges .... so only 2 panels (not 4). The nice thing about simple panels is that it will add height to your windows and make them look larger/taller. The fabric that you have is gorgeous - I don't remember if it's a poly/double sheer or silk? If silk, then you really need to be careful of the sun as it will fade and shred eventually. I agree with Ecstaci. You have gorgeous windows to work with. I'd install your drapery along with woven Roman shades. The woven shades will provide some privacy while still allowing some light to come through. Take a look at these images (click to enlarge and get the full details). These installations are beautiful. I love the thick border on the drapery in the second image. You could do that too with the brownish color in your pattern. Take advantage of the height and mount your curtain rod above the window casing.

Thank you all so much for your comments and advice. My ceilings are actually onty 8 feet high. I was also considering panels only on the outsides of the narrow windows but wasn't sure yet. I have only 10 or so inches between one window (the windows are not centered evenly) and the mantel. The fabric store told me a panel would be ok rhere. I don't want it crowded. Still rhinking it all over. I'm leaning toward panels and due to my budget, will address the shades at a later time. Thank you all again.

I missed that image with the narrow windows. I agree with the fabric store. One panel on the outside of the windows will do. Then get something over that mantle : ) Good luck!

I do like the idea of stationary panels to frame the windows and add some texture to the walls.
