Very nice piece. It LOOKS like there is room to extend the top for a few stools to sit there. Are you sure you do not want that option?

Sure you could do that but if there's any way you could have your builder extend the counter top a little so that 2 small stools would fit, you won't regret it! We had the same issue. The contractor didn't think there was enough room for seating but I really wanted it. You'll have to turn your island a quarter turn so the seating is in front of the panel and not the cabinet. Here's a pic of mine.

I have this and love it. We have an unfinished basement so I was able to run plumbing and electrical for a small prep sink with second garbage disposal. Central location for the main prep area is great. Second best thing I did in my kitchen, right behind my enormous appliance cabinet.

In a tight square kitchen, we used an antique butcher block—vey handsome piece—as the island. It provided a very functional surface, central point for meal prep and the all important de-briefing of the day for parents and their teenager, and was a beautiful piece of history. Large basketry beneath provided storage. Sorry, no pics!

HI -- I remind people all the time -- just because you have an island does not mean you have to have stools . A lot of kitchens are just going for a working island instead . On your plan you actually have room for a bigger working island if you want .
