A kitchen island is a valuable opportunity to add storage to your kitchen ..however an attached dining table could work at table height or island height..I have observed that any one with a size able island ends up using it for dining almost exclusively...so I would recommend just making the island as large as possible with a 10 or 12 inch overhang on one or two sides for comfortable swivel stools

Think about how you will use this space over time. Personally, a kitchen table is at the perfect height for me to work and small children and elderly to access. An island is so tall it seems like it cuts the room up too much. Having family close by would be a deciding factor.

Keep in mind if you put a table in place of the island there will be chairs which could be in the way.

A ISLAND WOULD BE MUCH BETTER, YOU CAN USE IT FOR STORAGE, EAT ON IT, USE FOR PREPARING YOUR MEALS, IT IS VERY VERSATILE.

We just renovated our kitchen....big beautiful island. While I love it, I sometimes wish I had opted for a table. It would provide same workspace and with chairs pushed under, more seating plus I just like the feel of everyone around a table. I will say that having an island height is great on my back for prep work.
