Love your new look! I don't think I would try and match the wood. The kitchen looks so nice with tile but I would change the color to a cooler tone.

Definitely match the wood. It will add a beautiful warmth to the room and make it seamless with the rest of the house. Love what you've done so far!

You could pick a tile, however, if it were my kitchen I'd go with the same hardwood as the adjacent space.

I love the look of wood floors, but recommend a floor mat or runner in front of the stove and sink. Moisture and high traffic can ruin the finish in those ares. Cushioned mats are also much more comfortable to stand on while cooking.

What backsplash do you have in your kitchen? (Color, type, manufacturer)

The backsplash is a subway glass tile. It is made by Emser and it is called morning fog.

Chances of finding the same floor is probably not going to happen due to patiina aged wood takes on over time....I would suggest an 18x18 tile to help open up the space, and choose a color same tone as counter surface only a little darker.

Hey Karen, love the look overall of the second pic you posted with the longer than wide gray tile. They layed it to run at right angles with the run of the wood. Looks interesting and if I have the layout of your area right in my head it would follow through nicely into your table area. You've done such a great job so far, I'm sure whatever you pick will look nice. Good luck and have fun finding the perfect floor !

Your hardwood looks like a pretty standard oak with a natural finish (either white oak or red...you would want to check before purchasing). The colours in your living space are very closely related to your kitchen which tells me the oak flooring would work very well if you worked it into the kitchen.

While it is true the freshly laid oak floor will be a little different for a while the two should slowly age together. By the time the living space oak needs to be refinished you can refinish the kitchen floor and have them "match" at that time.

I prefer to look/feel of wood in kitchens over tile...but then again I'm in Canada and our climate is dead-set against ceramic/porcelain tile because of how cold it is.
