It was selected in the store. I saw a small sample and the decorator said it would look great. It does look somewhat better in natural day light.

I don't think you need to panic : )
Your counter is creamy colored ( from what i can see)and once you declutter and place some white and chrome accents or a pop of orange or blue against the backsplash or paint the walls a creamy ivory it will all fall into place . Get inspired by cream and white kitchen photos here on houzz.

the tile looks better in your 2nd picture. I would suggest though in the future, always take home maybe up to 4 or even 6 subway tiles and lay then out together and test different areas of the backsplash where light would be different both morning, afternoon and night to see the difference.
