I would like to know exactly how it's done and will the soot make it black. Thanks

We would like to know as well. We are looking at doing the same type of thing and would like to white wash and not necessarily paint our stone. What is the product called to do this?

Just mix any type of white paint (flat finish) with a little water (try 3 parts paint to 1 part water--1/2 cup of paint should be more than enough for a brick fireplace). Paint the brick with an old paintbrush and keep a cloth handy to wipe up drips since the paint will be runny.

After looking at all of the photos of this house, I suspect an artist must live here, and at the very least someone with creative flair. It's the way the decorator worked with the featurs of the home and enhanced and accentuated them. I love the whimsy of this huge but cozy vintage house & quirky happy vibe!
