I think almost anything can be stylish if done well. There are a lot of old fads that have been updated successfully. I think a border can work if the architecture supports it.

In the kids rooms maybe, but not in the main areas.

Like another poster earlier, I just moved into a house with them in every room but the living room, and they are all coming down, one by one, as I redo the rooms. To me almost nothing looks more outdated.

In period homes, built before 1939, I like wallpaper and only then can use a border.

The only acceptable place for these things nowadays is in a kid's hospital room where it can be extremely difficult to add cheer to the room otherwise because of equipment. Bunnies and bears and such can make little ones smile a bit. Otherwise? They are great for a Little House on the Prairie/Walton's tribute museum.

Wallpaper borders have not been popular for quite some time!

I think that--if done right--they add beauty and character to the wallpaper, and the room as a whole

everything has a use in life, from subway tile to borders, done right, they look special. i had an early 50s bathroom, a couple colors of pink and i had no way to pull it away from that. I used a border right above the tile. it was magnolia blossoms and leaves, which have a bare hint of pink. then white and dark green. looked wonderful and cost very little. I will say i prefer things like flowers, etc. where the constant repeat do not show so much.

I have a wood floor in the bathroom and I'm looking for something like it "a border around the tub only I don't like borders on the top of walls

Maybe try a wood look tile.
