Hi, Lori. Yes, we are very pleased with the Banks table. We've used it for our annual Thanksgiving day feast as well as for Christmas. It sat 10 comfortably. We got the medium size, btw. The extensions are heavy, but super sturdy and do not create much of a gap (if any) when in place. It's a bit cumbersome to install them, but well worth it for us. Two large wingnuts screw in from the bottom holding each extension in place, and must be twisted pretty tightly to assure a snug fit. The top is pretty "rustic" with a bit more "waviness" along the planks' planes than we expected, but level overall. Very sturdy. There are ridges between planks, but they are fairly shallow. I'm about to purchase a floor model with four scratches, did you receive a repair kit with your table? Have you had any scratches and does it fix easily?

I don't think we got a repair kit with the table. We've not scratched it either. Wife is very careful and covers it up when we use it. Which is like two days out of the year. Sorry I'm not much help. We've been happy with the purchase so far.

I'm here with a question about your table! Have you tried putting only one leaf in? I think that would be the length we'd want, but I'm afraid it will look funny. From what I can tell from pics online, the leaves go on the ends, so will the table look off balance? Thanks for your help.

Mel. No, I have yet to use one leaf, but would imagine that if the table were in full view it may look a bit heavy on one side. Maybe if there was a cloth in place it would be less noticeable. I never thought about the limitations of the leafs being on the ends.

I'm looking at getting the Banks oval extension table. Do crumbs catch in between the planks? We will be using this as our everyday table so I'm a little concerned about going with a planked table. Thank you!!

I don't think that the grain is thin enough to get crumbs in there. They are pretty wide and wavey. I guess I could see the gaps between the extensions getting gummed up a bit. We don't use it daily, though, and when we do use it it's got a cloth on it.

pdrmant- i bought the banks but it was a floor model. my two leafs seem to have a little too much give when i push down on it (well at least one does) did you say there was a screw or wingnut that tightens the leafs? do you have any pictures to show what tightens it other than the wood bracket that you have to push in?

Isaac, yes, there are two LARGE wing nuts that attach the leafs to the table. Without them the extensions are wobbly. I'm away from the table right now, but if I remember correctly, if you pull out the arm/stabilizers you should see the holes that the wing nuts pass through to screw into the leafs. Check under the leafs, too. You should see some holes for the nuts. I'll confirm when I get home.

Hi, can you please post a picture of the wing nuts and how they are attached to the the leafs and table? I have this table too with missing wing nuts and I want to know what to get and how to attach leafs. thanks

There are four large wing nuts and they seem to be proprietary, so I would try to order them from PB, if I were you. It would be a shame to strip out the housings with an oddly threaded nut. Under the table on each side there are frames that slide out a limited distance. Extend those and simply place the extensions on them (with the flat side of the extension facing out of course) and push the extension (that's now sitting on the frame) in towards the table to get the fit as close to flush as possible. Now go under the table with the wing nuts and screw them in from the bottom. The extensions will tighten up the fit and you'll be all set. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Does this Banks table scratch easily? Will it be ruined by a small spill? I want to use this table as my every day table, but am worried about the quality. Any input?

Sorry, KD. We use it like three times a year. So far so good for what it's worth.

KD, I will also add that the quality is great and it has been a Lego building station on occasion. It has withstood a dozen diners including kids and spills for the last four years. I would recommend it.

decided to purchase the table--but stuck on color: grey wash or Alfresco Brown. I have walnut floors and wall color is TBD, but leaning towards a gray like Stonington Gray. The room doesn't have a ton of natural light and I'm not sure if alfresco brown will be too dark.

Stephanie, I also contemplated about the gray...but I was afraid it was too trendy plus husband wanted the traditional brown. Regardless, it is beautiful. I need to replace my Ballard parson chair covers at some point. We purchased the large table which will comfortably seat 8 and have the leaves if and when needed.

Looks good with the dark wood floors. The grey would contrast, but I'd be concerned with the trendy issue on such a large piece, too.

We purchased this table this year, so have only had it for a few months. I am not at all impressed with the quality. The initial table was replaced because the leaves would not secure tightly. This left a wobbly end. We have had the same issue with the second table. We are currently waiting for a repair person to come look at it. The table marks up very easily!! Keep in mind we do not use this table every day. It also does not clean well at all. Very disappointed. There are other options which cost much less and give the same look. Search pottery barn knock off dining table. At this price point, I expect better quality. We do have other pottery barn furniture and have been happy with those purchases. But this set leaves a lot to be desired. The gray wash in store appeared to possibly be more durable.

I just purchased the Banks Dining Table. It will be delivered at the end of next week. I suddenly am concerned that chairs will not fit on the ends when it is unextended. Has anyone sat on the ends of the table when it is not extended? Please let me know if there is sufficient space. Thanks.

Without the extensions, standard chairs don’t fit as deep under the ends of the table as the side chairs do, and sitting there, tall folks may feel as if their feet are competing for space with the Banks’ legs. We are short in our family so this is not an issue for us. Good luck.

It fits chairs with or without leaves. These are Ballard designs parsons chairs. I will say as noted above, not tons of leg room but my hubs in 6’ and no probs.

The base is gorgeous but so wide it does impedes footing.

pdrmant, a big thank you for the heads up on the wing bolts! My wife and I were considering a floor model Banks in the Alfesco color and the leaves were brutally wobbly unsecured. The store personnel essentially said "that's how it works, it's a floor model take it or leave it". I showed them pdrmant's pictures and they even called the furniture department to inquire about them but no dice.

So, I called PB myself and had them read off the entire part list for the Banks table and sure enough, "wing nuts" was on the list - no idea how this was missed when store employees called.

These are PB part number 7780468 (maybe a different number for a different color finish) and you need 4 of them total to secure both leaves. I went back to my local PB store and had them order this part number, which they did not charge me for.

You could probably accomplish the same with store bought hardware, they are 3" long 1/4" or 5/16" threads, but you are spending hundreds/thousands of dollars on this piece, I would recommend getting the part directly from PB.

Btw, we love the table, it's beautiful, especially after using some Old English scratch cover on it.

What a poorly designed table! It's such a lazy, cheap way to add leafs! If adding one leaf to one end only, the table is not centered over the legs. Better a mennonite built with proper leaf extension mechanics at the center of the table!

I am thinking of getting the Banks table as I think the design is classic and will always be in style. My problem is that after the extensions I will have exactly two feet left at both ends for walking. I realize that when fully extended I will not be able to put head chairs. Anyone else have that issue? Thoughts? Will it look ok without head chairs?

I was looking to purchase the Banks table from Pottery Barn but wanted the table in for Christmas and they could not deliver until mid January. So glad I looked around. Ended up with the Bradding table from Pier 1 and couldn't be happier. The quality is amazing and the price was less than half of Banks. I also caught the chairs on sale.

Our gray wash Banks table was delivered today. I love the size (we have a large family, it extends to 128") and the color. I'm not in love with the way the leaves look when installed (even with wingnuts tightened VERY tight, I can pull leaves outwards about 1/2 cm) and the sheen of the table in indirect lighting (think regular sun coming in through a window, no lights turned on). The sheen looks a little plastic-y compared to other gray wash pieces in my house. Perhaps this will equal greater durability (which would be great since we have lots of kids). I can already see that I'll be much less worried about scratches and water circles on the surface (vs. the pretty cherry dining table we're replacing). I was so neurotic about the cherry table that I wouldn't let anyone put ANYTHING on in without a table pad/table cloth. I suppose one concern about the veneers is potential chipping at the corners, but the top looks pretty durable. I think we'll be happy in the long run.

Does anyone have suggestions regarding chairs to accompany the Banks table? I am looking at the Alfresco color... it will be in a formal dining area. Thought we'd try and get chairs from somewhere other than pottery barn... open to any ideas you may have...

I was just about to purchase Pier Ones Bradding table as it’s very similar to the Banks but only a fraction of the cost. Reading all the reviews however turned me off- apparently the top bubbles and stains with even a small amount of condensation!

are any of the banks table purchasers still happy with the table? I’m looking to buy in the dark wood but I’m concerned about the quality, scratches. I saw a floor model that was badly scratched and they said it was abuse from kids in the shop over a long period of time. Would love some feedback!

I gave up looking for just the right dining room table with a durable finish with a stain I like.....until I discovered Craftedheirloom.com I'm having my table handcrafted with a durable finish in a custom made stain-its made in Georgia-free shipping. The cost is comparable to Pottery Barn but I know Im getting a quality piece-not veneers that'll leave rings. Joe has been great to work with. 4-6 week lead time.

We've used the table at least 20 times, a few big parties with catering trays, dinner parties, and my new rescue dog decided he liked to lie on the table. :-o I think it's stood up to use pretty well, and generally, it looks great. There are two gouges (or chips?) and I have no idea how it happened. They are on the edge of the table, without leaves. People in my house generally aren't careful with things, so......but I haven't tried to cover. One small scratch, no rings or any other marks whatsoever. We don't use coasters and have had countless wine glasses and water glasses on the table. I haven't tried to cover the small scratch, but I think it's probably easily removed. I have never used a table cloth. I like the look, and am still happy with the purchase. The only issue I have, is the large pedestals do impede seats when I have 10 at the table (with leaves). For the price, I think it was a good purchase.

Your table looks beautiful. It’s amazing how different our gray wash looks. It is not smooth but has a bumpy wood grain texture that had a plastic feel to it. Doesn’t even look like the same table as yours.

We have had the round Banks table in gray wash for 9 months. There are definitely some little scratches on it even with very little use (in fact it came with a little scratch and Pottery Barn customer service was unable to find a touch up kit for us). Prior to quarantine, we never sat at the table. My biggest complaint, since sitting at it more now to work/do school work is that it wobbles terribly. I'm not even comfortable having a cup of coffee on it for fear it will spill. I have tried inverting the table and tightening all the hardware which helped a little, but for the price, definitely not worth keeping. Pottery Barn is giving us store credit which is better than nothing.
