Have you considered Quartz? It's great looking and has antibacterial properties. Also, there is ZERO maintenance.

How many times do we need to have the Carrera Marble conversation? Go with quartz if you don't want maintenance.

"Super white" quartzite has a similar look to Carrera. Also, the Danby marble is supposed to be less porous. I'm almost done with my kitchen reno and I did choose Carrera (with 3 kids under 11 years old!). I just couldn't find something that I could substitute for it, so I had it honed which can help make etching less obvious. I'm really happy with it and I'm also going into it being quite realistic. I expect some stains, but I expect my kitchen to work hard and take on some character like kitchens in Italy and France.
