Need some advise for this tiny bathroom

We just bought this 1900 cottage but the bathroom needs a bit of character.

I love the uniqueness of this floor with the bead board! the colors are fun too! I would bring in a vanity cabinet in the armer tones of the floor in wood. Use a granite for the top in the greenish color granite.
Get rid of the shleves as now you will have a place for thes items under the sink area and hopefull the vanity can be large enough to have a bank of drawers.
Get a larger mirror in the same wood tone frame as the vanity.
Pull the toilet paper holder down to normal height.
Do a window treatment that brings in the colors of the floor and the new wood vanity.
Now a really neat chandelier with crystals that has the ol rubbed bronze feel and all of your hardware faucets and fixtures to be in oil rubbed bronze finish.
Oh and paint the upper portion only of the room the golden color...a good one mibht be warm butterscotch from Dunn Edwards....leave the bead board the color it is currently but if it needs painted then paint it the same color it is currently/.
This just off the top of my head...hope you like the idea!

Paint the room a couple of shades lighter orange than in the tile, add a larger mirror, some pictures and a curtain.

Honestly, the flooring feels out of character with the beadboard and overall feel -- I'd consider something in a regular color or patterned tile, and not run it up the wall. Also, either a larger pedestal sink or a vanity, for both storage and substance. And yes, a larger (vertical) mirror. Then maybe some art next to the new towel ring to the right of the sink...

I would replace the sink with a cabinet in cottage style and add different color to wall ? Begin there and see if you can possibly keep the flooring . However, you may need to add something more in traditional cottage as in wood porcelain tile as it would keep your cost down and update without losing character of home.

I love the floor and the vintage look, so I wouldn't make substantial changes. I'd hang the mirror vertical, put the towel rack under the window (between bathtub and toilet), lower the toilet roll, and replace the shelves with a shallow freestanding farmhouse-style cabinet or shelving unit, depending on your needs. Also hang artwork on the wall next to the entry door, possibly with a smaller piece above the toilet. Then replace the gray towels with colors that pick up the floor.

I am so delighted with these responses. Thank you so much. I have some perfect art to go here and didn't think of it until the suggestions. There are lots of second hand furniture shops around this area in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales in Australia and now I know what to look for. Thank you so much. luidos, Thats a good question. I guess im thinking more shabby chic. Im sending a few more of photos of the house just to show you the style. We haven't moved in yet. Only bought it 3 weeks ago.

Wonderful home!! The light is terrific. The colors are wonderful coming from the land of everything in shades of gray.

What is the composition of that bathroom floor? Is that tile or linoleum?

If you put in a reclaimed wood floor and stencil it , it will go a long way to harmonizing the room.

I like the floor an the beadboard. That already has character. Think you need storage and from the photo it seems that you'd have space for a larger sink with a cabinet under it. You could convert a dresser...

Lots of good ideas here! If you want to change the floor, I'd change it to a small white hex tile.

All offwhites would look lovely. Or a bit of farmhouse-beachhouse, sand and/or pale seablue. A new floor (yes to hex tile! or wood grain tile with a wide white baseboard) and a prettier classical sink or perhaps a wood vanity with a vessel sink.
