Can you paint Ethan Allen furniture?

I have a new (old) home but cannot afford to replace my ethan ellen maple furniture...i got a white headboard for the bed (replaced the two twins). The jack and jill room has desks in the same furniture, but the maple works in the "office". Anyone have any success, or,should I work around it. Walls will be yellow or blue, and windows will likely have plantation shutters. Thoughts?

Unless you signed a *do not paint waiver* when you bought the Ethan Allan pieces...paint away!

I would use chalk paint. various companies have it. don't have to sand, just paint away.

Check on youtube for videos on painting furniture. You can get a lot of great tips that will make the difference between it looking good and great.

It really makes no difference if it is stain or paint it is all in the prep if you want a great finish, I agree with haley.

Here's a photo of a pine cabinet I did in black. You could do it white to match your headboard. As stated above, go on you tube - lots of inspiration and instructions and sooooooooooooooooo easy.

I just came across this when I googled about painting my old maple Ethan Allen. I don't know if houzz gets this to you or not but was wondering if you painted and if you liked it. I have 3 chests and a desk that I would love to paint but am fearful of ruining it.

Using chalk paint I found to be very easy. No priming is needed. On some sites they say to wax but I used a poly eurathane in a satin which makes it a bit more durable. Google chalk paint on youtube and watch a couple of videos. That's what I did before doing my first project.
