I think changing your floorplan will help a bit, everything is too spread out now. Put the arm chairs in front of the corners of the fireplace. Move the loveseat that looks like it's getting punished in the corner to the space where the chairs are now. Move both sofas in so that the front legs are on the area rug. In the corner where the loveseat was, add a game table with 4 chairs and hang a pendant light over it to really define that space. THEN take a step back and determine what might work best for the walls.

HI -- I am not going to say bookcases .... getting a little tired of that but if you need bookcases for books and collectables etc . , then go ahead . I am suggesting matching console cabinets on each side with a lamp and painting above and some display décor items . Bring the furniture off the walls in closer to the fireplace . It is perfectly fine to have some bare walls . It gives the eye a place to rest and less can be more for some rooms . Do a search on Houzz for a room with a fireplace that you like ,and use that as a guide . As for painting or pictures and décor - fewer bigger things rather than many little things.

If this room is going to have a tv, a large space is already filled.
