    The blossoms are lilacs I would wager. Beautiful in scent as well as appearance. They need a frost to be more than a leafy shrub. (I grew up in the Flower City -- Rochester, NY, USA -- where there is a lilac festival each year which attracts more than 500K people to celebrate the Highland Park arboretum filled with more than 200 varieties of lilacs. The 19th century designers cared about parks for the people.)
