Dining Room Design Help

I am having a hard time putting my dining room color palette together. I have purchase the attached rug since I felt like there was too much brown with the table and floors. I love ikat and geometric patterns but I found this fabric to go on my chairs but I am unsure of it. Also, what should I do for drapes as far as pattern or solid. I would like to introduce other colors in this room beside navy, gray and yellow since those are every where else in our home.

I had removed my comment, as I have been searching for fabric for the chairs and coudn't come up with anything that worked with the bird fabric. It really helped to see your living room and kitchen...as the dining room looked very traditional and I was struggling with graphics. The pictures below may more be in line with the look you are wanting and you could use your rug and drapery choice above, go with solid fabric on the chairs and bring in some really great art and a table centrepiece to make the room feel vibrant and modern. I think that this room and the fabric that you have chosen are a good choice and so it the one of the rug , the only thing that I would do is to get the same fabric as the chairs and have or make your own panels for the windows with it , get a crystal bowl for the table ,some art for the walls and the blue will do the rest for you . An idea but if you could find curtains with the ivory background it would be better ,

Make sure the rug is 4' wider and longer than the table bop. Any of the colors in the bird print would work for drapes.

The fabric for your chairs, while pretty, is a bit too large in scale. Your rug will work but don't go too modern with your traditional furniture and room which I think is lovely as are the blue walls and paneling. I'd pick the drapery fabric first and then see what you might want for the drapes. I think a tailored look would be best.

I think that is the issue that I am having is that we have a lot of modern touches and taste in our home...think west elm. I want something on the seats that isn't boring.

I don't think that the rug is boring if used with other colours and prints like your pretty fabric as one . Looking at bare walls may seem boring at the moment but when you add a mirror and art to it it will take on a new personality.

I do see the point about the scale of the fabric. What if I used this fabric for drapes with the rug?

Wow, cindylou, your home has beautiful millwork! That rug is nice, but to me, lacks the sophistication of the furniture and the room's architecture. Maybe something like these... don't know what the budget is, these are inexpensive machine-made from overstock, but you get the idea.

Agree yellow/orange will be nice complimentary color.

The bird fabric is sun porch-ish, but if you want to bring birds into this space the art is nice. Also, it is easy to find beautiful gold mirrors with birds. A stripe fabrics with whites/blues/oranges for the chairs would be very nice.

The rug and drapes are both geometric designs so I don't think they go with each other. By themselves each is nice.

Are the drapes for the dining room or the room where you have the sample up?

I wanted them for the living room but everyone has said to NOT do drapes in that room. So I thought maybe I could put that fabric in the dining room.

Maureen, I have thought of that idea as well. But then what do I do on the chairs? Jill, I see your point on the furniture and room style...that is sorta the issue too. I'm not really into super traditional things, the table and chairs just happen to be a great deal so we took it. Here are a few other pics of our house since that may give you an idea of my style.

What are your thought on animal print? For me, this is a neutral but also adds something interesting and works with a west elm style elsewhere.

Maureen, love the inspiration photos. Agree that the fabric and rug would work with a solid fabric. Maybe a deep blue velvet or going the other way, a RH type linen in the drape background shade.

cindylou wondering if your drapery fabric comes in a yellow color way? A fun yellow floral arrangement in a crystal vase as a table centerpiece would be fun and tie the rooms together.

And what about finding two head chairs for dining table in the same design as the chair in the family room.

use the fabric you have on chair to make window treatments!! Add that rug! Pull some accents in that room from some colors from windows treatments! great space

Maureen you nailed the style that I want with the westbury Long Island pic,,,even down to the flowers! It is a great mix of traditional, transitional and a tish of industrial. My question is with having such a traditional table how can I add more of that flavor. I got the rug and I'm not loving it....I think maybe too beige.
