Don't know the colors in rest of your house - but something light - light grey - light mink colored walls. I'd reface the cabinets with plain/simple doors and oc course, change the hardware. Be sure and get rid of that header board above the sink. Install some pot lights in ceiling and inside your glass cabinets.

I think crisp white cabinets might be nice vs distressing (unless you want a really rustic feel to your kitchen). I would not texture the walls, just add a really great color you love and it would be nice to add a complimentary color backsplash behind the stove (if not wanting to do entire kitchen). It would be great if you could update the hardware on the cabinets. For the wall of cabinetry, I would remove the doors and accessorize the shelving and counter for a more modern feel.

Below is a very rough idea of what I did with my honey oak cabinets. I used chalk paint and what I liked was that it covered the grain and there was no prep. This is the "easy" way to do your cabinets.

And on right side above the window do that arch)!!!!

Paint the cabinets white and update the hardware. Glaze the cabinets if you want a distressed look.

Thanks for additional close up photo. I agree with choosing countertop first, then choose the color white paint that coordinates best. Glazing and antiquing are techniques past their peak in my area, but still popular. If resale in the next few years is important, check current fashions in your area. Practice on the back of a small cabinet or the back of a drawer (if the backs unscrew from the drawer box).

The floor color will influence your choice of granite or other surfaces. Take several photos in broad daylight, print them out, check that the printing matches the actual floor, and take them with you to the granite yard and/or countertop shop. Several trips back and forth with samples are pretty average.

New lighting makes a huge difference, too. Replacing fluorescents with new LED bulb fixtures is dramatic.

We like the idea of New Venetian Gold granite countertops and beige travertine backsplash. So any suggestions based off of that?And what shade of white for cabinets and island?
