Fireplace facelift

We want to add a mantel (for stockings of course!). We aren't sure if we should have the arch removed or keep it (the cavity is rectangular), full width mantel, mantel with legs, painted or stained.

Help!

I like the arch too and if i had all your great wood furniture i might want to paint the whole thing including mantle, white. However, the brick looks nice if left unpainted. Just an idea...

HI -- I like the arch , but I don't like the TV hanging there . It really spoils the look of the fireplace . I find the side cabinets very heavy looking too. A big chunky beam the full width and stained dark set about 36 inches above hearth base , but not so sure you need to have the corbels (brackets ).

I would do a full length mantel. I like the arch its not something you see everyday. Give Santa a little work. I heard from Mrs.Claus that he needs the exercise. lol ;) Pretty, cozy room. Good luck! :)

Like the arch. Really dislike the tv. Hate the wires.
