Agree with flair. Is this your decor or the previous owners? Somehow you must have another post and your new picture got on a new post.

I did. I'm new to this and I posted a picture last night. I'm tearing it down to the bear bones in Feb. for a redo. It's faux limestone, Sheetrock and overwhelms the room, plus it's just flat tacky. The builder did this while we were gone on a trip. I told him I wanted three arches, but I meant flush with the wall. That isn't possible so he built this. He did try.

I'm in the market for solutions. I usually help people but for helping myself, I'm lost as a goose.

    Flair lighting, I totally agree.

Looks like you need some scaffolding to watch the TV;))

Another lesson-NEVER GO ON A TRIP WHILE BUILDING.

Margo, a lesson learned well. That's why we are doing it after the Holiday's. And the TV can be lowered 14". I kept hoping HGTV would come looking for me.

I hope this is a picture of the front of the house, so they might help with a fireplace design.
The other three pictures are of the fireplace itself. It will be sitting out 31" in a 19 x 17 foot room.
There is an arch to the left of the fireplace and a window to the right, that prevents me from having deep built-in cabinets. The man is coming in this week and I am desperate for suggestions that are reasonable.
If someone has any ideas I would truly appreciate them. Thanks so much. Shanny

loose the recess over the fireplace. put the tv somewhere else, its much to o high there. YOu have enough arches, i would square off the top, and fill in the front. to mimic the square uptop and arches of the front of the house.

Flair lighting, this is so much better. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. My other problem is, this is the only, I mean only wall in this room. It's kitchen, foyer and windows on the other. That's why we put the TV above the FP.
Because it's 31" deep the TV can't be seen from either side of the FP.
I am definitely taking out all arches and making it flat. Somewhere around 11-12' the FP will have to slant back to the ceiling. I'm thinking of putting molding across the entire room at this height and visually taking some of the height away. This room is just to small to have a 31" x 23' column going up. I am trying to contain everything visually to the lower section.
Should I take off the black molding as suggested? That seems a good ideas as I am rebuilding this from the ground up.
    Thank you once again.
In our world of problems, I understand this isn't life or death, but I look at this every day and don't want to screw it up.

take out the arches on the left and right too. get this wall as flat and one dimensional as possible. if you did that you may be able to put the tv to the left or right of the FP.

Great idea, thank you so very much. We will do our best, but the FP can not be pushed further into the wall due to the roof line.
Thanks once again for everyone's imput.

i know it cant but at least you have walls to the left and right that might work. and a way to run wires and such previous to closing in the arches. plus i think the awesome fire place and its height should be the focal point so less going it it (arch wise) i think would be better.

I have 5 1/2 " x 4 1/2' on either side. That should be plenty of room for change. Thanks again.. Still starring at this mess I let get by me!

Noooooo, but before Christmas I told my husband I did not have enough years left in my life to get use to this FP.

I've given it 9 years....but, with the builder coming Thursday, I am panicking about what to do. I only get one do over and I'm heartsick I will make another mistake.

In the 9 years I've looked at this FP, I realize I don't care for the tall FP's at all. Now to try to make it look less offensive is my goal. BLahhhhh!

One last question please... Could someone throw out a comment on the color I need to paint the new fireplace. Anyone?
