this looks great, how do i do it?

i'm a general contractor and i'm building my new home. to that end; is it best to pour a slab and create 1/2" or 1/4" recesses where the joints will be glued down to concrete or is it best to form up and pour the entire area as individual slabs and back fill the joints with gravel and silica sand then nail joints in a typical fashion?
