Kitchen layout help

Buying a fixer upper farmhouse, and doing reno on a budget (aren't we all). I'm stumped even trying to figure out how to redesign this kitchen. I want to put in an island, but do I move the gas line and bring the stove to the island? Or move the sink to the island so the 3 food prep areas are together (fridge, stove, sink). I'm told moving a gas line is cheaper than moving plumbing. Not to mention, I'd need to move both the sink and the dishwasher, and then what would I do with that window wall.

I worry just putting an island in without moving anything adds a barrier between the sink and the stove. The stairway poses the challenge as you can see. (the wall behind me in these photos are not usable for space)

Would appreciate some thoughts/ideas. Thanks!
