I would go with the wood look tile as it doesn't scratch, and spills and water leaks aren't going to ruin it they they do with laminate.

Area and throws rugs can be used to soften the look and feel of tile especially because it can be slippery for pets. They also soften the feel of it on your legs and back when standing at the sink or cooking. We love our tile floor with the area and throw rugs.
