what is the roof material?

looks like barrel-tile..but says house is in Chicago...can you do tile roof in this climate?

    Hi and sorry it took so long to get back to you. Yes, this home is in Orland Park and it is a clay tile nailed down on a triflex synthetic membrane over wood slats.The concrete used to cement down the ridge is made with Portland cement for extra strength with minimal cracking due to our freeze thaw cycles.

    We have done both concrete tiles and real clay but these come with some extra costs besides just the roofing materials & labor. Our architect designed the roof construction for a extra heavy load since there will be added weight calculating a snow load besides the materials. This particular home was built in 02 and we have never had to do a repair.

    A great alternative is the synthetic shingles. They have been reformulated to better withstand our climate without the added weight.
