When doing the cabinets get a professional who knows how to use catalyzed lacquer. Do not put paint on them. I don't care what anyone will tell you, it will not adhere for very long. Far to soft a finish for cabinets. Rings, kids, normal wear and tare and air borne contaminates, i.e. grease will loosen it even more. You will have buyers remorse in a very short amount of time if you let someone put paint on them. The rest of the wood make sure to degloss/etch it so you will have a good substrate for the primer to bond to, and in return the paint to bond to it :)

No, it's not. Look closely at cabinet doors. They now have a wainscoting look in the panels and new hardware.
