Wonderful update. The white looks so crisp and fresh. It lifts the look of the room and contrasts so well with the rich wall color. I love the rough stone against the classic mantle.

Everything about the after looks amazing. The paint with the stone, the white painted mantel and cabinetry, the chair. Very good colors.

Very nice job! Now, about that fireplace--I hope it's gas and does not get "fired up" to pollute the air.

One suggestion about the large white cabinet, I'd put a very nice, big green well-made fake plant (some of it spilling down the side of the cabinet) on top. It looks too bare. Greens also bring life into a room.

Love the paint and the hearth, (the stacked stone, not so much; it looks too rustic) but that's my opinion.

Love the look but lose the tacky TV. I'm not a fan of flat screen TVs over a fireplace. They're fine in a bookcase or inside a piece of furniture. I prefer a painting over a mantel.

Nice update, and if you're like me, sometimes over the mantle is the only place available for the TV. As to the fireplace fuel, gas or wood either one are combustible and have the potential to "pollute"....love a good wood fire. Smells great and "crackles"

I like the original black hearth material over the new blue-ish material, but everything else is lovely. Very pretty and clean looking.

Looks great. Tv over the mantle is fine. We just installed ours and love it.

Nice idea and it looks better - however, I too think the coloring is not 100%. These colors fight a bit which take away from the project. Try some other color combinations.

I think it's great. Stone, TV, and all the rest. I'd add baskets for throws and a pillow on the chair, but that's not your job!

I love the new updated look. Just a quick question on the best way to paint over a varnished wood? What steps to take for the best finished result? Also what kind of paint do you recommend for a really smooth finish that can be easily dusted when finished?

Very succesful transformation of the fireplace as a feature of the room and the entire wall, especially nice use of ledge stone and a great, trim hearth.
However, I would suggest to move the TV to another location to maintain quiet clarity of the interior. It is the common dilemma of two 'focuses' in a room; very difficult to combine both. Here it is the contrast between high-tech elements and classic detailing. It is probably not too comfortable to watch this TV, because mounted too high, and it appears to be tilted a bit to correct it. A good piece of art over the fireplace would be more in character, and some pieces (i.e. glass, frames) on the mantel would bring out the usefulness of the mantel.

Any one who knows me...knows I prefer the "before". Loved the green walls, loved all the wood. I do agree the fireplace needed something, that marble stuff was kind of funky.

But overall...I really liked the old room.

I am not sure why people don't give up on the argument of the T.V. over the fireplace. Obviously if that is where it is in a room, then it is there for one of two reasons that I can see. 1. there is no where else in the room to put it or 2. The homeowner LIKES it there! Give it up people it is a personal preference!

I love what you did. Love the white, love the ledge rock and love the hearth that looks like a blue stone-perhaps Pennsylvania or Connecticut-difficult to tell in a small photo on a computer screen. Room looks fresh and crisp not dark and heavy as before. That look was great in the 80's. Enjoy!

Love the stone work, paint and mantel. But, with the lovely fireplace, sconces and beautiful windows, that TV has to go. Doesn't fit in at all.

Could you tell me the firebox that was used?? Like the way there are no louvered vents and the stone goes to the edge of the firebox! I love this look, unfortunately I am installing a fireplace between 2 existing windows so don't have room for the trim at bottom but will be trimming out the top! I say excellent job!!
