I would not tear down the wall. Your layout looks very functional. What do you want that you don't have?

Based on the information provided it's hard to say. First, the configuration looks a bit forced, as it doesn't appear that there is enough room around the island to make it really functional. You might consider eliminating it and going to a U shaped configuration. I'd also suggest that you consider what is adjacent in all 4 directions. It appears as if there is a dining room to the left, breakfast room in the foreground and we know that there is an exterior wall to the right. What is behind the kitchen ? Can it be moved? If it is a laundry room can it be relocated closer to the bedrooms (where 90%+ of the laundry is generated).

I suggest that you spend a few minutes measuring your space and drawing up a simple plan using graph paper. You need not be an artist, but getting things on paper and playing with moving the blocks around can be the best way to work out a plan that you can then take to a design/build renovator. Find someone who has a good design eye and owns the contracting company. Find a one-stop solution that has talent and a established business. We found one in our town here on Houzz and just finished a major kitchen renovation.

We have a garage behind the kitchen and a screened in porch outside the breakfast/keeping room area. We would love to have a mud room and a larger pantry in addition to a larger kitchen. Right now the distance between the island and the sink is 32" and 31" between the island and the refrigerator. The island is 73" x 37".
