Wall over the sofa

Your advice would be much appreciated for a young couple. Colour of the sofa in their small living room shows their favourite shade of turquoise. Second idea for decoration were the curtains, where the same colour was found. Other colours from the curtains can be found on pillows. However, it is difficult to find any idea for the wall decoration now. The opposite TV wall is covered by a dark brown wallpaper with glossy white and light oak furniture so the accent is there already. What would you recommend? Many thanks for any good ideas.

Since the curtains already have geometric design to it I would also suggest going for a mirror frame .
Another option would be an art piece not. With splashes of colors like a lime green white black would look nice too .

A cool map of a favorite country or location, matted and framed? Most maps have green and blue on them.

Thank you all for interesting ideas. The art works look really nice everdebz! :)

Because you have all rectangular front/ sofa space.table/ I would go with something round! Can be 3 ,4 mirrors with different design/grouping ,silver, because find exact brown in art /maybe / I can't imagine your wallpaper behind, brown.,you don't have non brown!Choose one of the mild color from that what you already have, curtains, pillows! But if you like it'sO. K.
But I would add different fabric on pillows/faux fur ,2 small octagonal white and in each corner 2 big square of brown! I don't now,I hope I don't confuse you,but room look so great with bold color of sofa!!Good job!! /I think now if you are for change of wallpaper ,what about dark silver gray/!

Hi dmaz, thanks for the ideas! I am adding the photo of the opposite wall. There is the brown wallpaper in the shade, which is found in the curtains, one pillow on the sofa right corner, brown kitchen counter tops in the adjoining glossy white kitchen and brown chairs with white glossy table table. Maybe now the picture is more complete and gives better idea about the whole space.

How nice! [may I ask where you live?] and the circles are brown.... it always enlightens to see more of a houzzer's home.

it's a small space, and there are a lot of small(ish) things in there already: shadowboxes, items on the shelves, pillows, spots on the drapery… i would like something that is one single large piece, and not busy or fussy.

Now that I see the floor and rug ( thought it was carpet) I would suggest a different color or even a rug with pattern. This will balance the curtains and contrast the light wood floors and furniture.

Hello Valeria, i love your colourfull decoration. Not serious but not too funny : a good mix. To continue in the same idea, i would put a serie of round mirrors of differents sizes on the wall. A single big miror hanging just up the sofa and above yours heads when resting could give an impression of insecurity but a lot of small and medium one would be great. It will continue the idea of the circle pattern on the curtains and will reflects the chocolate colour of the front wall giving colours on that wall ( sorry because english is not my mother tongue )

Valeria, what is to right of the couch - any more rugs or art etc.? I see jl's point that adding another rug pattern, subtle even, would help balance the strong presence at windows...

My husband and I had a similar issue and what we did was buy 8 simple white frames from IKEA and a Wall mural that highlighted the colors of our decor. We then cut the mural so we had 8 even pieces for the frames. It honestly worked perfectly.

Dear Valeria, here are some of our designs for your wall. If you don't want to order something custom made for you with the color and size consideration, you may do wall hanging yourself of any fabric, matching with your colors. If you are interested how to do it, I can go into details. The empty wall is always encouraging element of life.

Wow, triqita, this is very nice! I do appreciate your effort to show the idea... yes, it would work very nice if the curtains are less vivid or there are none.. however, a very good match with the rest!!
Don't do anything too crazy that will just fight with the pattern in the curtains. Too many patterns will not be soothing to look at. BFF will not be able to relax as he seems to enjoy doing. The right vintage posters might work.
Dear Valerie.I love that new Idea.I f is me ,I would go with second round object. It take all of colors what you have in room.Carpet,,sofa, curtains ,pillows.Perfect ! If you think that is to much with curtains/ I can have it / is not interfere with them! But you can put some off white,or beige curtains !!With all other objects advice to you, you have to change windows panels. But go with round !!!Good luck!!
Dear dmaz, yes, you are absolutely right with the second round object. However, it would mean to get rid of the curtains, which work very well too and they also cost something... it is upon the couple to choose and I will be more than happy to present all ideas to them.
I wouldn't change the curtains. If you decide to go with any of my designs, I can match the colors exactly with the colors of the curtains.
And also you have to see place with your own eyes to see how all go together, because picture can make a false view !!

I think you need something simple behind the couch as the curtains are very bold. If you add pictures that are too bold is will look very busy.

The mirror idea will only work if the opposite area is pretty and has something pleasurable to look at...as this mirror image will then become the picture in the room...so to make sure you get what you want...then use a piece of art that makes you happy.

Dear all, many thanks for more hints and images. There is no hurry. The wall has been waiting for a good idea for 6 months, because the couple is careful in not mixing the styles and avoid cluttering in the small place. The idea with mirrors is worth testing, as it is necessary to see, what the reflection would show, so I fully agree with Vickie. If it does not work well, probably one piece of art (not too loud) will be considered. Thanks again for all your advice :)
How I look all included mine hints for over the sofa design I see that mirrors composition is the best.Look like art ,reflect light, but is not about what you see on them/other side of sofa/,point is to have something interesting, and this mirror are!!!Valerie go for it,you would have bright and nice look with not so much pattern and would look beautiful from all wham see in your question posed to as.Is composition of smaller, bigger, round object what I suggest to you ride in the beginning ,is not mirrors what you can look in it for check you in/you ca/ but is decor!! I hope you find the way to finish what you so beautifully start with.

Any glass above a sofa will make seating on the sofa not safe and comfortable. What is the reason to have something behind the sofa on the wall? The reason is that this something on the wall protects the wall from getting all king of spots (from a head, a hand touching the wall by chance), it protects the wall from cold, and it decorates. It should be a pleasure to touch this decoration and not a fear to break it. Think of children often jumping on the sofas...

Many thanks for your kind help and enthusiasm :) It seemed so easy in the beginning, but now you can see, why we got stuck... I think there is a lot of useful advice now and it is high time to start testing and looking for right products. Will keep you posted :)

A metal sculpture in black. Hang low should be almost as long as sofa. Nice room.

IKEA has these circle mirrors that stick to wall. Try a random pattern for a different look.

I'm liking the third print from Thomas Baker with more vertical design and more of the green than blue. The round mirror grouping is nice too.

How about a (changeable) gallery wall? Maybe mix in something round to pick up on the fun motif in your draperies... Kate, from CentsationalGirl made a very cool 'starburst' mirror for about $10. ( http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/04/diy-paint-stick-sunburst-mirror/)

so far i'm disliking most of the suggestions. there's SO MUCH going on, in a little scale, in this room already i just want to see something large and not chopped up. no triptych even. one solid piece. this couple seems young and artistic…. maybe they could go around town and take a bunch of photos of scenes/images that inspire them. and then maybe they could choose and have a blow up made to dimensions they like. something akin to a facebook coverphoto.
Thanks a lot for the new comments :) I spoke to the couple during the weekend and they were amazed and very grateful for all ideas presented, however opposed to too much clutter/noise on the wall. Mirrors seem a bit cold to them... so most probably one object will win. It is difficult to agree on an art work which they both like the same. However, they are soon travelling to distant places, so they may bring some nice pictures worth considering...

HI,, i really love the rounded mirrors shown in a photo.. i think thats the best,, but you can do in white frames of black.. in same color tourk.it will be tacky and over kill....

After all considerations they went for a self-made framed mirror, which works pretty well. Thanks to everybody for advice, each was thoroughly read and much appreciated :)

That is great - homemade!! Nice natural wood. Do you know if that was hard to make?
