On wood floors, can you have two rooms with different size planks?

11 years ago
I want to put wood floors in my dining room but I would like the planks to be wider (4 1/4") than my adjoining kitchen (floors meet at doorway only) which are 2 1/4". I also wonder if they can be two different stain colors.
