As shown, this entryway was $6,400 (not including the glass - this customer provided their own glass).

We made this door 2 years ago and wood prices have since fluctuated, so pricing today may be different.

If the door will be painted and is on a 6' deep covered porch...is there still much benefit to going with Mahogany vs Fir? Thanks.

In that case you could go with either type of wood.

Douglas Fir is closed-grain and will provide a little better surface to paint. However, we've also sold plenty of Mahogany doors that have gotten painted. Mahogany is open-grained, so the texture of the grain might come through even with a few coats of paint over it. Mahogany is a harder wood than Fir.

Thanks so much for the reply. Is the difference very noticeable in use? Meaning, does mahogany door feel much heavier/sturdier? Due to porch/paint, I'm not concerned about weather or grain...so wondering if any other dramatic reason I should budget for mahogany over fir.

In terms of how the door feels, I don't think you would notice much difference. Either way it will feel heavy and solid.
