HI -- That sounds nice and maybe remove some upper shelves to make bigger spaces where you can hang a picture /painting . Cloud white by Benjamin Moore is used by a lot of designers and maybe do a bit darker of that blue for the back of the shelves or even another color or a wallpaper or fabric .

I too like the white idea with the blue on the back. And, yes, I would match up the shelves to be the same on each side. Particularly since one side is longer than the other, it will help make it look more "balanced".

Your center section seems to be a bit off. Too much area for the 1st & the 3rd shelf. You need to add something on the top shelf off the right bookcases. You have an air vent there & even if you want to ignore it you can't. I would try painting the back area of the bookcases either the same color as your walls or lighter. Paint the vent the same, and though you should not block it put something small or narrow in front of it. Remember 1/3 books. 1/3 collections and 1/3 open space. Books can be stacked, leaned against each other or used with a book end. Add color to your spaces that you have used elsewhere in the room. You can even highlight by adding small clamp on lights to the top shelf. If you feel you need to paint the rest of the bookcases, use a creamy white. Change it around as you like to make it more interesting.

thanks. Yes, I used a primer. 2 coats and 2 coats of origami white, semi gloss paint.
