Maybe the TV on staircase wall. Maybe a sofa on the long wall. L-shape. Other sofa facing TV staircase wall. If they fit.

You have the sofa oriented correctly. Keep the passageway behind it. I would mount the TV on the wall in front and put the bar on one end or the other.

How about painting the tv wall black? Then, ikea low cabinet below (and above the tv for storage). Then, behind the sofa, a similar set-up for your buffet, bar, storage for toys, games. THe second photo is a wall mount shelf from ikea. It may take a couple below, and closed above to get a beautiful result.

I am not sure if I would paint the TV wall black, but I totally agree with what Darzy was trying to say. Floor plan wise, it looks like the only two options are the sofa facing the way it is, and the sofa facing the wall that has the refer on it now. Cannot really comment on the relative merits of the floor plans without measurements of the room and the sofa. However there is not a lot of visual interest in the basement, so this is a interest and warmth in the room with have to come from color, artwork and accessories. I think an accent wall would be a great idea.

I really like your ideas. very much appreciated. Darcy we have thought about giving the wall where the tv will be mounted a different color as well we 're just not sure the color combinations to use.

Any suggestions? I'm not too sure about black either. how will you paint the whole basement and stairs?

If you'd like to add color, you could do the accent wall an orange-ish (Pumpkin Spice) or a pretty blue gray or watery blue. Both colors would look nice with your brown leather. Here are some blue/grays I was thinking and the last one has orange, pumpkin, yellow with the name of the paint if you want to test it on your walls.

paadoggi, Do you have two sofas in the room? In the dilemma explanation, you said 'couches'. ? It seemed like you have two sofas from your photos. Am I mistaken?

The sofa is actually a one piece with different sections but they're all together in Uish L shape.
It can be joined together to become U or L shape or be separated.

We are leaning towards that. I'm very worried about our painting color combos. it's not a big space so we would love to have colors that make it seem a no then bigger with a back bar in mind

I think I would choose a light color for bar and any more large items to finish the room. Dark colors close in on you and are most obvious with lighter walls. Maybe a bar in light natural wood tone like the upholstery on the sofas.

I would also paint a light tone color. Keep it light and bright.

I might also use only one color
or
a light color and two tones darker but not too much contrast between the two colors.

You have some different sizes of walls and configurations, from what I see. What is the niche with the white patio stacking chairs? You could do a contrast color in the niche.

We were thinking about making that area a bar of some sought in the area with the white patio chairs. It'll be interesting to see what we come up with.

How about a wood feature wall instead of regular color? Something that would bring out the neutrals in your couch?! Would look really nice I think!
