Can anyone give me some guidance on a chandelier?

The pillow colors are the same as the art.

My husband would never agree to move 'his' chair so far from the tv!

Regarding your question about the chandelier, how high are your ceilings?
Are there any other light fixtures in view of this room?

We have 9 ft ceilings. We have recessed lighting ( 1 in each corner of the living area and 2 spots over the mantle). Then just the one floor lamp and the two on either end of the sofa (which I want to replace).

Okay, so pain is done which is Interactive Cream by Sherwin Williams. After paint is on I am having a hard time deciding on curtains. I want them to stand out but not be blinding. Relaxing and settle. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I think flipping the console table and hutch is inspired (with console behind couch, or just gone). Don't understand what you have against your lamps, which seem fine to me. Am in love with your fireplace. Think people are onto something with their being a lot of patterns here, but not sure you want to start over with that at this point...

Thank you acm. I definitely agree my excess of patterns is an issue but not at liberty to start over at this point. Maybe if I change out my pillows, move the hutch, and add curtains that might help. I just think the 2 lamps look cheap ( and old).

I agree with the pillow. If you put just one color on all couches that will really tie it all in together. The hutch in the hallway will be great. Maybe a nice tall plant in that corner if you think it's too bare? But less is more. The lamps will make a huge difference. If you want to glam it up, think mirrored ones. Even Target has some great ones!

to me the painting over the sofa and the rug compete with each other... it may be worth trying to pull some of the blues from the painting into the room, eg with cushions & throws .... our perhaps move the painting elsewhere and find something that goes better here....

Thanks for the response. For a ceiling fixture / chandelier, you need to be a minimum of 7' off the floor. That give you 24" in height for the fixture. Something like the low-profile or even a semi-flush could work well with the space.

Ok y'all. Here's my next question. If I move the hutch to the entrance hall, it will then be on the same side of the room as the tv cabinet which would make two tall pieces next to each other ( only separated by a door to the kitchen). Would that look funny? See pictures.

The hutch has a lot of character and is not just a tall box (like the TV cabinet. It stood look fine. It will also separate the entrance from the living area.

I would put the hutch flush against the wall ,pull the love sit back up to room ,add drapes either sheer or solid cream like durlap lined and add a solid rug light color and add bigger colored pillows not many just enough to make it look clean and make a statement keeping it cozy in the hall add two tall skinny lamps on either side with dim lighting but pretty shades . Remember less is more you do not need so much pattern in your room it is very lovely

Yes I would do like 2 large pillows on sofa and a large and and smaller pillow on love seat smaller pillows being different like something with a intuit all or a saying or something that sympolizes you or your family like my last name is finch so I always throw a bird in :-)

Yes I still would like hutch in entrace. I like the love seat where it is moved.

Before the hutch moves alllllll the waaaaaaaay over there, I would love to see it flush on the wall......just to make sure that it was or was not meant to be there.

I think you may find that hutch to imposing in the foyer. But you won't know till you try. I would first cozy the furniture closer and put hutch flat to wall . I like the height there. Then if there is room, you could possibly open it and with an added chair have little place to write or laptop etc.

Oh, I like the idea of using the desk in the hutch!!!

Pillow colors - depends on the tone of your room. From the pictures the walls and floor look cool tones. Your couches seem warm tones. If you want the place to look more glam-like - go aqua/ turquoise like in your picture. If you want the room to look warm - go with reds. Stay away from anymore golds or browns. Also, depends on where you live. I live in AZ, so I prefer to see cooler tones as the weather is mostly warm. Either should work very well - just a matter of your preference. I'd buy both and return the ones I don't want. OR switch them out season to season if you can splurge, lol

I agree with karenfinch, abbyjean and jinman12 to try hutch flat against wall first. I think your entry looks good the way it is. I would recommend a calmer picture over the fireplace in subdued colors from the rug. Check Etsy for some really nice landscape paintings. Would love to see pottery ginger jar style lamps in brick red to tie in with rug.

The tall red shade lamp go beside hutch in hall. Or corner in LR with hutch flate against wall on couch side.

Please move that cabinet out of the room. And that standing light. Buy side table and new side light. New pillows for sofa. Other then that your house is pretty cozy :)

You have done a great job, the only thing bothering me is the area rug, not sure if it dates the room or is too busy with your artwork, I keep looking at them both as if distracting me. Like the light fitting in the pic with the lamps and some pics with solid area rugs, won't say anything about hutch, others have

That isn't a hutch. It is a secretary. Would it fit on the angle wall by the leather chair? If more lighting is needed --- there is a ceiling fan to deal with.

We all know it's not a hutch, it's qiucker to type! Show us pics on progress!

blenheimnewzealand, thank you for the rug suggestions. That is exactly what I'd like to have, unfortunately my husband thinks our rug is beautiful so I believe I'm stuck with this rug until I can convince him otherwise. :(

Pull the loveseat back to where you had it next to the sofa. Replace the lamp shades with plain black drum shades. Get a quieter piece of art. Keep the rug and pillows, and the lamps.

I turned your secretary flat against the wall, but I think the room would look better if it were somewhere else. Either way though, the room looks great.

Replace the secretary with a big ol' palm tree. Yeah, that's the ticket.

The secretary is now in the entrance hall and the table from the entrance hall is repurposed as a tv table The armoire is out ( it is for sale on Craig's list in case anyone is interested)
