Go to your local nursery, pick up some cheap stock and start with that. It is easier to practice on something already slightly developed, then waiting for a seed to grow.

Growing bonsai from seeds is a very slow process. You can buy a bonsai or a prebonsai (a bonsai on its early stages) and that'll save you sometime. Bonsai training and caring can be very fun and is a beautiful art. There are many cheap optiones out there that you can order online. Check out my recommendation.
