Balcony Gardening

Miss my in-ground garden, but...

I'm trying to adjust to a patio garden now that I live in an apartment. I've planted two tomatoes in containers, a few beans, some herbs. I'll be planting strawberries later today in hanging containers. I just got some heat-tolerant lettuce (Anuenue and Jericho) that I will also be planting. I also grow oat grass for my dog.

I grew lettuce, parsley and scallions all winter long. It really cheered me up to have something fresh growing.

hi there
another plus: I often grew tomatoes on the balcony and hardly ever lost one to blight or whatever mean desease. And Basil tends to thrive in a pot, unlike in open soil. And if you ever go for ornamental stuff: most Dahlias grow happily in a container, Cosmos.... Only my runner beans wouldt thrive.

I'll keep that in mind about the ornamentals. My basil is doing well!

I was just out watering my strawberries when the maintenance guy stopped to tell me my balcony garden had inspired some of the other tenants to start their own gardens. Awesome!
