I LOVE datura! It is bushy in habit, about 1.5-2 foot tall, give or take. Use it as a busy annual - this is not a small plant. It is best in full sun, when I had it in part shade it didn't get as lush. Foliage is beautiful lush blue-green. Plant it where you will enjoy the evening/night blooms (blooms close/die off during the day). In my experience, plants did better in the ground - they grew more enthusiastically. If going to put in a pot, give it a big pot, at least 20" diameter - like I said, this is a good-sized plant. The flowers are BIG and scented.

NOTE: SEED PODS ARE POISONOUS!!

OOOh, but they are so interesting looking - the seed pods are spiky and round, look like some kind of Medieval torture device. I do either deadhead or cut off the seedpods to encourage more blooms. The plant will still re-bloom if you leave the seed pods on, but not as much. Really gives a cool effect if you do leave them on though :).

I've grown them from seed and don't remember them being especially difficult. Although I don't recall any tips/tricks offhand, I do remember sowing more than I needed, I had rather low germination rate (I think it was 1:3, but not positive on that).

I've been told that ALL parts of this plant are poisonous, just be sure to keep it where small children and animals are not likely to come in contact with it. I plant mine at the back of the garden, and have some in a container near my deck, but in an area where the children are not allowed to play.
I've also been told not to cut it or handle it without gloves as it can be transferred through your pores. It is a beautiful plant though.
