That's great that you found one that was in bloom! I am overwintering mine inside right now. One of my BILs found it and bought it for me as a small plant in a 3" container. It's now about 18" tall in a 10" container and has started sprouting near the base. It is supposedly a hummer favorite, although it is normally a very late bloomer (early fall) in our area if grown from a small plant.

It finally bloomed in late October of this past year.

The blooms got my attention and then the scent convinced me to buy it. I also liked the height and it was only $8.00, reasonable for Manhattan prices, LOL.

It's current pot seems so small so I think I'll repot it soon. I hope it's not too much of a shock.

Which farmer's market, Union Square? I'm getting really antsy waiting until I have time to start planting annuals in my balcony boxes -- had a pineapple sage two summers ago and may have to get another -- the flowers and fragrance are really a treat.

Yes the Union Square farmer's market. Got it last Friday. They also had some nice looking regular sage plants. They also have special deals if you buy more than one.

Sorry! BIL = Brother-in-law. One of my brother-in-laws stops by the local nurseries alot and I asked him if he would check to see if he saw any pineapple sages. He did find some and picked one up for me last year and I was grateful! My other brother-in-law doesn't really get into plants, although he does like a thick, green, carefully manicured lawn!! LOL

I do agree that the flower color on the pineapple sage is quite intense.

Pinapple sage roots easily from cuttings. You could probably take some and keep them indoors and let them start again next year.

I used to have some but I kept killing it. too dry on the roof. And I can't take it inside because the cat will eat it.

Union Square Farmer's Market is really starting to show some stuff. Been there twice already :)

I'll be experimenting with propagating the pineapple sage. I just love the way it smells.

Was at the farmers market at Union Square today and saw some stunning Weeping Cherry trees. They also had a couple of little magnolia trees for $30.00. Being that I couldn't carry any of them home with me due to their size, I opted for 5 little bareroot hens & chicks for $5.00. I got away cheap today, lol!

A friend of mine gave me the top of one of her pineapple sage plants last summer. It rooted in no time. I pinched it back and rooted the little "branches" that came on the sides as well. -Unfortunately, I didn't know that it wasn't winter hardy, so now I haven't got any again. -Hopefully my friend has overwintered hers indoors, so I can get a new cutting from her.
The smell is Divine, but the taste isn't half bad either! -Try it in green salads with some of the plainer tasting types of lettuce... Yummy!

So I passed by the Farmer's Market today and spotted this cactus for only $2.00. Couldn't resist the bargain and those cute pink flowers. Plus this may survive the corner spot where everything else dries up and dies.
