I'm sure you'll get plenty of replies that go something like: Yes, they will likely die, despite your best efforts if kept inside all year round. I would have to agree. You may get a tree to last a couple years, maybe even more, but that would be the exception, and why push your luck? Either commit to providing a tree the conditions it really needs to thrive (not just survive), or pick another species that will better tolerate the conditions you are willing to give it. I have some tropicals that are indoors with me all winter, but spend the rest of the year outdoors. The majority of my trees though, spend 12 months a year outdoors, and are certainly healthier than they would be if I tried to imitate winter indoors.

Sorry to be a downer, but sometimes keeping living things alive and happy can be hard enough, why make it harder?

Why not start with a ficus or a jade or a pony tail palm or a schefflera or a bamboo or any of the numerous tropicals that would thrive indoors?
