I plant poppies with larkspur for spring/late spring flowers. They started to sprout last fall shortly after planting.

I did the same two years ago and had wonderful poppies along with larkspur. I do like them both, but in my zone (7)they start to fade around mid-late May from the heat.

When this happens, out they go and get replaced with zinnias and cosmos that take over the areas until fall.

I'm not familiar with your peony but they sound wonderful!

I grow them every year exactly as described above by Spritual Gardener. Poppies can be sown 3 times a year, early Spring, late Summer and in January (I am zone 7 NC). They remain green all Winter for something green to look at, which is a bonus. I grow the pink Peony Poppy and the CA Poppy, which both freely reseed themselves. They are such a joy! Your combo sounds perfect.

Peony poppies need a chill period so now is the time to plant the seed - right on top of the snow. Peony poppy is another name for the opium poppy, papaver somniferum - also known as bread seed poppy. Generally if you let them set seed you'll have more next year - I had them blooming last summer, some of them seeded from the previous year so I'm expecting to see them back if and when spring arrives (we're having a blizzard at the moment). They look kind of awkward dying - set out some of the Blue Horizon ageratum nearby to cover them while their seed ripens.
