Russian Mammoth sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) are edible and they have huge heads, so lots of seeds!

And, you can get large quantities of Russian Mammoth sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) in the pet food section of big box stores really cheap compared to packages from the seed racks.

Do these grow very big? Are there others you would recommend? I don't have much space. Are the black and white striped seeds the only ones edible?

Aren't all Sunflower seeds edible? Unless you spray the heads with insectacides or such. You can grow alot of Sunflowers in a little space. Just give'em good stuff to grow on.

Hi again, I manage to get some seeds. When should i stop fertilizing so the seeds are safe for consumption? I currently fertilize twice a week, switching to flower fert once the bud shows.
