You can prune it like a normal hibiscus but just don't cut below the graft. ;-) Depending on where they are grown, they can flower on and off all year or may have a big summer bloom, followed by a rest during winter and then new growth for more bloom (with on and off blooms in between). For the latter case, people will often prune them in fall or winter for summer bloom.

I have another question. The hibiscus flowers are on the smaller side and when freshly bloomed they already look wilted with sometimes discolored or ragged edges to the petals. Any thoughts as to what is causing this? Thanks.

Well - I think that once the plant adjusts to its growing conditions, the flowers will smooth out some. But then I do know that some of the real fancy hibiscuses have flowers with "ragged edges" which is the way they breed them - ie., they call them "ruffled". LOL

Plus I've found that if it is really hot, the flowers may get wilted if the plant needs water. Usually that happens before the leaves wilt and most often happens during the heat of the day, especially where you are and if it is in alot of sun. Even up here, I put mine in half-day sun.
