New to Balcony Gardening

I saw this forum and was surprised how specific balcony gardening is as a hobby. That's awesome! I recently, 3 months back, built a garden box on my balcony from cheap wood I picked up from home depot and it turned out awesome! this was three months ago, now it looks a lot more like a forest than anything else, but hey, its my new favorite hobby. My main question is, how many others out there built their own garden box, how'd you do it? What did you do to allow water to drain through? And if you got pics, don't be afraid to share! I've got nothing to offer but amazement. Your box looks great. I'm hoping to grow some veggies on my balcony next season. Hadn't considered building my own box from scratch. Well done.

I use plastic Containers with a horizontal divider, placing a wick mat on the top of the divider then I add the growing medium, usually I use Horticulture Perlite or Potting Soil. The divider divides the growing Container, the lower part acts as water / nutrients reservoir and the top as growing medium, a ratio of 1:3 is sufficient. I add a drainage hole at the bottom and plug it with a corke so I can change water when I need to. I Just add water and nutrients from the top to fill the reservoir. Plant roots will absorbe water and nutrients from the moist medium. :) SZ
