This is my first time starting annuals from seed indoors. I have the lights set up and ready to go, but I am uncertain about when to start the Angelonia seeds I bought. The seed packet says it takes 13-14 weeks for them to flower, but they aren't supposed to be planted outside until things warm up. That can take awhile here in Syracuse (although last frost has been earlier than usual in recent years). I was going to start the seeds this week, but my sister said she thought they'd get too leggy and fail if I started this early. Anyone have experience starting Angelonia indoors in this neck of the woods? I'd appreciate some input.

Another question I have as a "newbie" to the seed starting thing is what soil to use. Some things I've read recommend a soilless mix, but then you have to transplant the little beanie seedlings into regular pottting soil after they get their first set of true leaves. Would it be a mistake to start the seeds in regular potting soil with some vermiculite or perlite added to lighten it up so I don't have to transplant them?
