Painting Terracotta Pots??

On my balcony I have a very large terracotta pot and it looks really ugly with all that white salt streaked on the outside of it. I scrubbed and scrubbed it and still can't get it looking nice. I would like to paint the outside of the pot but wasn't sure if it would be a good thing to do. Is there a special kind of paint I should use? Any ideas please?

I've painted my terra cotta pots before. They sell special paint in the craft stores for this, but it's somewhat more expensive than craft paint. So I just use regular acrylic paint and a paint sealer/clear coat. You might want to use a primer first to keep the paint from absorbing in the pot. Or they also make a terra cotta sealer which you could spray on first and then paint over that.

Tracy - Thx very much for this information. I imagine I can get this at Michaels? I am really happy to know that they can be painted. I'll be sure to use a sealer.
