Thanks for the article - a friend of mine and I have been discussing this, and i'm currently searching for some wrigglers. Hopefully it will prove to be a practical form of composting for those of us w/o yards.
I'd be curious to hear others' experiences.

My sister had a worm composter in her livingroom (of all places).
Hers was a cute black thingy with a cover... it sort of looked like a small BBQ grill.

When she moved to a larger home that had a basement, the composter was moved down there.
All was well. Then she got married. LOL! She forgot to tell her new hubby about his new extended "family".
She didn't even think about it until she had some lettuce leaves for the bin.
She decided not to say anything and wait to see if he would comment on it.
They were married for 3 months when one day, when he was making a salad, her DH sais, "So... should I feed the scraps to the worms?" LOL!!
He discovered them shortly after the wedding in & was waiting to see how long it would take for HER to mention them to HIM!

They didn't bother him at all.

I'm definitely going to do this. We always composted as I grew up, and I cringe every time I throw veggie scaps in the garbage. I think I've almost convinced my husband. =)

i just set mine up in november and can report no problems. i do have to stop myself from checking on the whole set-up, but once the worms got used to their new home they've just been munching away. no leaks, smells, escapees - yeah! and the whole bin fits under my sink.

Wow! What kind did you get? And how often do you have to tend it? I'm often away for up to a week, and wonder whether the little critters need feeding or cleaning more often than that.
