Found a few that mentions to start them early indoors especially for zone 5 and below or else they won't bloom. I'll soak them today.

You can certainly start them inside now, but do give them as big a pot as you can accomodate. They grow very fast.

i have failed miserably .. starting things way to early ....

if your z5 .. is like mine... didnt i tell you this already ... last frost 6/1 bullet proof ...

one month is more than enough for a tender vine ...
i think .. unlike our z8 friend.. that you are way ahead of the curve ...

that said.. if you have 12 seeds ... plant 3 once a week for the next month.. and then report back which timing was correct ...

it is much easier to plant out a small compact plant.. rather than a vine that has been putting tendrils all over the house ...

of course.. in hindsight.. there is that germination period to work into the equation ...

Ken is right. It's way too early for you. My seeds last year germinated in three days. In two weeks the plant was rocketing up. TRULY, this is a very easy plant to direct seed, and I would advise you to do that unless there's no other way to get blooms because of a short growing season.

I was so worried after reading threads the other day from folks who are in zone 5. They didn't get any blooms when they started it in May. I was thinking that this hyacinth vine might have the same experience like my moon vine. I started it in late May and I only have 1 or 2 flowers around mid September. Then winter arrived, it got killed.

I started mine. I do not know how you like you gardens to look in a particular month but I want everything that is suppose to bloom for the summer blooming by late July Aug. I do not want one month or wait until I am being theatened with frost before they bloom.

I have started my summer bulbs, I like having dahlias blooming June-Snow Fall. LOL

Yes, move them to the window and keep them moist. My last frost date is usually May 8th. I will put half out and hold back half in case we get a freak frost.

Is direct sunlight ok for them?

If you are talking about sun through a window that is good, it will not be a problem because the window sun is not as strong as sun outside.

1. April 2, 10pm, she was showing herself barely above the potting mix.
2. April 3, 11pm, she grew 2.5 inches. LOL and only light from christmas lights. I moved it last night where it will get more sunlight.

Yeah, that's what happened to my moonflower. I will grow them inside next year. :D

Now, I need to find a way on how to make them crawl the pergola. I mean, something that will not ruin the aesthetics of the pergola. :D

Update:

Here they are after 1 month and 8 days. :) 2 didn't make it because it was getting enough light. From what I can tell, they're very easy to grow. It's grows fast. I think it will be faster if my basement was higher than 65F.

The longest is 16 inches long. The shortest is 12 inches long.

Lovely healthy plants, I started them in mid April i guess and my plant is over 3 feet... its only due to warm temperatures here..

Great! My basement is cold. I think that's the reason why it's growing slow.
