Pine candle pinching

Hi,

I'm in the beginning of making niwaki of my Pinus Parviflora.

More books I'm reading more confused I am. I have read Jake Hobson's Niwaki again and again, and tried to follow, but with lousy result. At the end of last summer I cut back leading growth of this year developed candles with already opened needles (just few of them-lucky me) but it didn't develop any buds on them. The only result was loosing needles on branches I have cut. Probably the tree was shocked. This year I decide to try fresh candle pinching. If someone could help me with that. Is it now the right time for candle pinching (please look on pictures I have taken today). Should I pinch leading candles or weak ones side shoots first. How many candles at one time. After which time I shouldn't pinch any candle. It's too many questions but I am newby and I'm afraid to make some big mistakes and kill the tree.

I need any help I could get.

Myro
