Try Googling Lobelia Siphilitica (aka Great Blue Lobelia) if that was something you didn't run across in your search.

I'm only hands-on familiar with the kind sold as annuals producing mounds of small but intensely blue flowers - has always been a good mix with alyssum in a border.

Try googling Lobelia erinus and Lobelia speciosa.

Thanks for the suggestions, My first google searches pulled up the speciosa Blue Lobelia, and that is what motivated me to post my question.

Today, I googled Lobelia erinus, and found a cultivar which matches the characteristics I listed above. lots of the starter plants were blooming today, and their blooms are bright blue with white eyes.

It seems like the Lobelia erinus 'Mrs Clibran improved' must be the source from which the seeds were taken to grow my tray of starters.

If that is true, it seems like they should turn out being a very nice ground cover, mounding type plant that I can use to border my Azalea bed facing East, also my bed of tall growing hosta facing North, and under my white New Dawn climbing roses, which receive good light from sunrise to midday, but are also in an area that receives a nice amount of afternoon shade.

Thanks again for the heads up suggestion to check the erinus species. Now I have the facts needed to select the right planting locations for this tray of starters.

My only concern now is not knowing if I should wait 10 days before planting; just in case they were nursery grown, and not yet properly hardened off enough for immediate planting outside.

You also need to know that they will withstand frost, but not a hard freeze. Take that into account before planting outside.

April 15th is our normal plant date for frost sensitve annuals. But since I am not certain they were hardened off prior to delivery, I will not be planting mine till
April 29th. Hopefully that should ensure they will be at a very low risk to suffer from any later than normal freezes.
