Love in the Mist Questions

I ran across this plant on Amazon of all places. I'd never heard of it before and it looks beautiful. It doesn't appear to be very common as I can only find a few places that sell seeds.

The write up on it says that it will take some shade. I have pretty deep shade until about 10am, it lightens up as the sun moves and then it gets a couple hours of sun or becomes very bright. Does anyone know if it would grow under these conditons?

It is known to us on GW as Nigella damascena. Most Cottage Gardeners do not think of it as rare or hard to find. Steven had some beautiful plants he got at Annie's Annuals last year. We commonly call it 'love in a mist.'

It is a frequent reseeder.

Very easy to start from seed. Long blooming in cool conditions, which I don't have. I rather think half day shade might be close to all it would tolerate, as it is usually listed as a full sun annual.

Don't spend a lot of money on plants, it grows very easily from seed. After that it reseeds like mad. If you can't find any seed at a reasonable price let me know and I will gladly send you some I collect from mine.
By the way, I have some that grows in a part-sun bed but it grows best in full-sun.

one of the best named.. most useless over-rated carp plants i ever had ..

eventually.. i had to take after it with roundup.. as it started taking over a 10 by 10 foot area ... and even with 5 acres.. that really started to bug me ... and 3 years later.. i am still killing seedlings ...

the intense color of the flower.. was not offset by the over-abundance of greenery ...

riddle me this batman ... is it the name or the plant that intrigues you?????

I have to agree with Ken. I was thoroughly underwhelmed with it too, but thought it was just because of my too hot springs.

No riddle...I want a cottage-style garden and have quite literally a huge bare area in the yard. We bought the place after years of neglect and the yard is just fallow. Misty foliage, rampant growth, pretty flowers all seemed just the ticket.

Last year I was watering my crabgrass just to have something green out there. LOL We had somewhat the same situation with some cosmos who took over the dead area of the yard two years ago and it was stunning, so I convinced my husband that we would like a cottage garden on that dead area.

I also have 9 dogs in the yard so anything out there has to be pretty tenacious to keep on growing. This plant seemed to fit the bill. I'm also looking for Virginia creeper for along my fence, something else that others are taking a flame thrower to. :)
