I like the idea, esp. if you aren't worried about color coordinating the bed. Have often thought about doing it myself but wondered if taller flowers would shade shorter ones too much if you didn't plant according to height. I have scattered wildflower seed this way, though.

no reason why it shouldn't work. just don't plan on being able to weed(and who really wants to?). make sure you have enough space to you can reach the plants at the back or in the center without crushing everything else.

i'm planning on taking all my old seed packages that i've been finding while i spring clean and mixing everything together and planting along the fence in the back yard where
not much grows anyhow and seeing if i can get some color
in the yard.

it doesn't hurt to try and you seem to be doing a bit more than i plan to-- and i'm planning on having something.

why dont you just buy one of those roll out mats.. already impregnated with the seed ...

the only reason to fail... would be birds or mice raiding it ...
