LITM .... is a great name.. on a crumby plant.. from my experience ...

a 3 foot tall.. wispy plant that reseeds intensively .. and never did what i wanted it to do .. though individual flowers were cool .. the plant was wanting in form ... and i question how it will end up looking in a pot ...

it will bloom.. when it matures enough to bloom.. but it has a long way to go from 4 inches.. i do know that ... i dont know what you want us to tell you beyond that ...

and i dont know if repotting will help ...

is there a reason it cant go into the ground???

I love these plants, even if the flowers don't make you go wow from a distance. The seed pods are really cool, too. I've grown them from seed a few times, but don't know if they bloom according to maturity or day length. It's hard to say without more info or a picture about repotting...

One plant won't make much of a show but a group can be attractive. They have quite long yellow tap roots so I'd get it out of the pot asap. They also self seed but are not too hard to pull up if you get them early. Otherwise they can be tough to get out.

Personally, I would repot that if you have no ground space for it. Aim for taller over wider if you have a choice of pots. Good lookin plant, lots of leaves. BUT I don't think it's Nigella. Looks nothing like Nigella. I think it's Polemonium.

Also looks like it says up to 18". That would be more congruous to my experience with Nigella if that's what it is. And LOL! I can read on your tag is says "early to late summer" bloom time. Don't trust the tag? ...well that's probably smart!

purpleinopp - I couldn't get the URL to open but the pictures shown at the link look exactly like Nigella damascena to me. They self seed all over my allotment. The juvenile foliage and basal leaves are less finely divided than those on the flowering stems.

As for bloom time, the label in the pot says early to late summer and that's about right. Once they start to self seed you will have plants of different ages and a longer bloom time.

flora, thanks, sounds like you have more experience with it than I do. I couldn't find any pictures of lower foliage to refresh my memory.

Are all 3 pictures of the same plant? I thought the 3rd plant was the one in question, and different from the other two. Maybe time elapsed, and it wilted, between the shots.

Does it require Full Sun- 6 hrs direct light or will the Partial shade work right?
